My Name is Peter Nash and I am a Digital Nomad

Carie Armstrong • Nov 16, 2021

My name is Peter Nash, and I am a digital nomad at Hoodoo. It's been a long pandemic for a lot of us, and due to some health concerns in my family, we opted to just ride things out at home until my wife and I could both be fully vaccinated.  So, once we had received ours, we decided it was safe to foray out into the world once again, and planned a trip to California over the summer to see my family for a few weeks.

Part of the digital nomad lifestyle is that making a decision like this was easy; there was no fuss or hand-wringing about whether or not I could do my job and assist my customers while I was in California. The only thing I need to do my job is my computer and an internet connection - so my office is wherever I happen to take my computer - whether that’s at the office, in my house, or on the patio in my parents’ backyard. Beyond that, since Hoodoo is flexible about where I work, my family didn’t have to limit their vacation time based on my work schedule. This allowed us to have the luxury of spending several weeks in California, where I could see my parents while my family could enjoy time away unhindered by my work schedule.

I dedicated the first week of our vacation to working on my Hoodoo projects - including meeting with clients as well as the internal team at Hoodoo. While I was working, my wife and kids were able to go on short day trips with my parents to visit local zoos and experience a number of outdoor attractions their small town has to offer. In the evenings I joined them for fun activities with my family, one of which included an impromptu fence installation on my brother’s property… as one does when one is on vacation near family. That said, it was fun to show my 3-year-old son that farm life is lots of work, and not just petting chickens and goats.

Once my official vacation began, we had a variety of fun activities planned. We took the opportunity to explore the
Amador Flower Farm to see what types of lilies and other flowers we might want to add to our home garden. We also got to enjoy relaxing afternoons at a friend’s pool where we could enjoy a lazy dip in the water to cool off from the summer heat. And, as anyone traveling with a 3-year-old will know, a visit to the county dump to see the big tractors moving trash is a must. We took time to explore Calaveras Big Trees state park to see some of the largest trees in the world. Dedicated an entire day to the Old Town Sacramento train museum learning about, discovering, touching, and riding on a variety of historic trains. And let’s not forget backyard s’mores in the evening with the grandparents for a sticky sweet treat.

Our next trip will be over Thanksgiving. Bring on the turkey feast, pruning in the orchard, hunting for the perfect Christmas tree, and fritters at Apple Hill. Having the flexibility to go where we want to spend time with the people we love is just one of the reasons why I love working for Hoodoo Digital as one of their Digital Nomads.
